Adeptus Mechanicus

Adeptus Mechanicus

Mars is the planetary realm of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the home and domain of the Tech Priests of the Cult Mechanicus. The Red Planet is acclaimed as one of the wonders of the galaxy, the workshop of the Imperium, the forge-world, the maker of ships, and the guardian of secrets. It is the Adeptus Mechanicus that furnishes the technical knowledge of the Imperium, that preserves the scientific secrets of former times, and which explores the new sciences of the 41st Millennium.

THE CULT MECHANICUS

The Cult Mechanicus, or Cult of the Machine, acknowledges the Emperor as Master of Mankind but does not recognise the authority of the official Imperial Cult or the Ecclesiarchy. Instead, the Adeptus Mechanicus follows its own dark and mysterious strictures.
According to the strictures of the Adeptus Mechanicus, knowledge is the supreme manifestation of divinity, and all creatures and artefacts which embody knowledge are holy because of it. The Emperor is the supreme object of worship because he comprehends so much. Machines which preserve knowledge from ancient times are also holy, and machine intelligences are no less divine that those of flesh and blood. A man’s worth is only the sum of his knowledge - his body is simply an organic machine capable of preserving intellect.

Shadow War Armageddon - Skitarii Ranger Kill Team

The new SW A game pulled me back to GW! My small 6 member Kill Team will have a Leader, 2 Ranger, 2 Fresh Forged and a Specialist. I start with the specialist. Right out of the Skitarrii box, no conversion. Even the paint job is more or less canon, I only went for a muted brown red.

Next was a Ruststalker. I really like the mini and it was gathering dust in the “to paint” queue.
Not sure if I will use the mini in my kill team, but it looks cool anyway!

The Skitarii Fresh-forged! “Fresh-forged are the most recent additions to a Skitarii Ranger team, their remaining flesh still raw from the surgery involved in bionic modification.” (From the Skitarii list)
I used a more modest colour palette as on the Specialist, no cog motive on the coat and hood etc. to reflect his more “fresh” nature.

Since there are no Fresh-forged minis around I went for a conversion, I used legs (Short Greatcoat Legs - Static) and torso (Gothic Void Hazardous Environment Torsos) from the incredible good Anvil Industries Regiments range! Arms, head and weapon are from the GW Ad Mech box. I only shortened the Radium carbine a bit since the official carbine looks IMO like a long rifle.

Another Fresh-forged mini and a Ranger. The Fresh-forged mini is done as above, the Ranger is right out of the box eqipped with with Radium carbine and Enhanced data-tether.

Some terrain for the Forge! It is an old Warmachine terrain piece repainted.

Knights

An Imperial Knight is a small combat walker that is a one-man version of a Titan. However, a Knight is smaller and less capable in combat than even the smallest class of true Titan utilised by the Titan Legions, the Warhound-class Scout Titan. Knights normally deploy in squadrons comprised of several of these war machines. These ancient battlesuits stand thirty to forty feet tall, are protected by nearly impenetrable Ion Shields and armed with a devastating array of heavy weapons. Imperial Knights are colossal war machines that tower over the battlefield. They are propelled into battle by powerful servos and have the power to kick over tanks and crush soldiers into red paste. Vulnerable limbs and joints are protected by sweeping armour plates of adamantium and supported by an incorporated Ion Shield which responds to the thought-commands of its noble pilot. The presence of just one of these towering engines of destruction is enough to change the course of a battle, and only the Titans of the Adeptus Mechanicus are more feared by the enemies of Mankind. (see: 40K Wiki)

I bought one of the model kits right at the release of the Imperial Knight kit in March 2014. I assembled it pretty fast but then it somehow ended in the “to Paint Queue”. Now after 15 month I finally got the model finished. So behold “Ixion” venerable Knight Paladin of House Hermetika.

House Hermetika, better known as "The Grand Order of Hermetika," is a loyalist Imperial Knight Household of noble reputation which resides on the planet of Kaldeia. The closeness of their home world with the Forge World of Mezoa in the Gothic Sector of the Segmentum Obscurus has naturally led the Knight House to align itself to the Adeptus Mechanicus rather than directly to the Imperium of Man, although House Hermetika's strength and wisdom is such that it has escaped the strict tenures of the Sidon Protocols. For millennia House Hermetika has remained a faithful ally to the Forge World of Mezoa rather than its vassal.
(see
40K Wiki)

I used transfer of the original kit and some Forge World sheets, the heraldry on the Ion shield is partly freehand painted (the flames) as is the Hermetika symbol on the right shoulder.

Horus Heresy Adeptus Mechanicus models

Forge World did it again - they pulled me to the Dark Side (GW models) - this time the fantastic new Thallax miniatures.

Mechanicus posing for Redemptionists...

For my last 40K GT (IIRC it was early 2000) I wanted another Redemptionist unit. I was really bored with painting the same again and again and decided to paint Adeptus Mechanicus minis as stand is for Redemptionist.

The idea is, that a Mechanicus Techpriest was trying to emulate the fighting power and the sheer zeal of the Redemption by steel and arcane technology.

The strongest fighters are of course the Servitors (Redemptionist with Eviscerator). But after awhile the body of a Servitor gets used to all the Drugs that are necessary to maintain his strength. His body becomes to shrivel and sometimes body parts has to be removed. But he could still serve the Emperor by being a Flamer-Servitor (Redemptionist with flamer!).

But even that kind of abuse is sooner or later to much for the remaining human parts. But he could still serve the Emperor by being a Servo Skull (normal Redemptionist).

Combining the very old with the new. I think these minis are still working together. From the left: An inquisitorial Henchmen with a very Mechanic look, then an ages old Citadel mini and on the right the classic Jes Goodwin servitor.

I was always a bit unhappy with the new Servitors from the Daemonhunter range. So it was conversion time again. The Servo skulls are from Forge World.
